Search for local ‘nature hero’ teacher to celebrate new wildlife learning facility

Staffordshire Wildlife Trust have launched a competition to find a special local teacher to help celebrate the opening of a fantastic new learning facility.

The Biffa Award Learning Hub is purpose-built and features cutting-edge environmental design. It provides the perfect space for learning about nature in harmony with the natural landscape in which it is located and can be booked for school visits to Wolseley. 

The hub is at the home of the Trust’s Wolseley Centre HQ, near Rugeley and Stafford, and is surrounded by 26 beautiful acres of people and wildlife-friendly grounds. 

In addition to the building, the Trust is also developing a sustainable rain garden, funded by Severn Trent Community Fund. An outdoor space where children and adults can relax and learn about ways to minimise the impact of flooding and drought on a local level. 

The hub opened during the pandemic, so it wasn’t possible to hold an official launch event. Now it’s safe to do so, the Trust is inviting a local teacher and class to help celebrate its opening.

The completion of the hub wouldn’t have been possible without the help and generosity of numerous local trades people and companies. Those who were involved in building the hub and rain garden will also be invited along in the afternoon so we can thank them, and they can see the completed project.

This summer we want to invite a ‘nature hero’ and their class to enjoy a free taster session in the hub, followed by the hub celebration launch and some free play time in the afternoon.

To find our special nature hero we’re asking people to nominate local teachers who are wild about wild learning! Perhaps your child's teacher goes above and beyond to connect their class with nature? Or maybe they've transformed an area of your school's grounds into a wildlife haven?

We know the past couple of years have been tough for teachers and children alike. The pandemic has really highlighted just how important our connection to the natural world is to our wellbeing, and that’s especially so for children. Through this competition we want to recognise a teacher who has really made a difference and allow their class to enjoy a trip out to this fantastic new learning facility.

The competition is open to all class age groups as the session can be adapted to suit the Key Stage level of the class who attend. Don’t delay, nominate your nature hero today!

The competition closes at midnight on Monday 13 June, with a public vote running on Facebook between Friday 17 June and Monday 27 June to select the winner from the shortlisted finalists.

The chosen nature hero will be invited along with their class to enjoy an exclusive FREE taster morning session in the hub on Wednesday 14 July. We'll also arrange a coach to make getting there and back hassle free.

Once a nomination is made, they will receive an email from us asking them to confirm their consent. If they do not respond to this within three days, they will be withdrawn from the competition.
