Staffordshire Wildlife Trust is paying homage to its volunteers across the county for their dedication and support. The charity has hundreds of volunteers, who give their time freely to help with all manner of tasks. From practical conservation, to helping customers in the charity shops, they are at the heart of all the Trust does. This Volunteers’ Week, which takes place between 1 and 7 June every year, gives a chance to recognise the fantastic contribution volunteers make and say thank you. In Leek a team of eight volunteers help out at Ladderedge Country Park. They help in many ways, planting bluebells, fencing, updating boardwalks and restoring pathways so visitors can safely enjoy the site. One of the volunteers, David Connell, recently joined the ‘100 club’ which celebrates volunteers who have dedicated 100 hours of their time to helping out. He was presented with a certificate and thanked by the conservation team for all his hard work helping to care for the park. The Trust is also running a recruitment drive to find volunteers to help in several areas of the Trust, including two roles helping at Ladderdge Country Park and in practical conservation roles across our portfolio of 40 plus reserves. Applications close on Friday 9 June. Jeff Sim, Head of Nature Reserves and Species Recovery, said: “We are thankful for our incredible volunteers every single day but Volunteers’ Week is a special time to really celebrate all they do and inspire others to get involved. “Right now we’re looking for several volunteers, with opportunities in a diverse range of areas where we need help. We have office roles as well as practical roles, and also need a driver to help us transport stock between our charity shops.” Those interested in volunteering can find out what opportunities are on offer by visiting the Trust’s website: |
