We’ve got some really cool hands on activities for young people to enjoy this autumn, along with some fantastic online sessions run by the national Wildlife Trusts during Hope Week in November.Staffordshire Wildlife Trust
Staffordshire Wildlife Trust is encouraging young people to take advantage of several free interesting activities this autumn.
The Wilder Youth project sessions, for 16-24 year-olds, are funded by UHNM Charity and NHS Charities Together so are free for young people to attend.
Hope Week runs from Monday 6 November until Friday 10 November 2023. It is entirely virtual and FREE to join. Each day at 6.30pm until 8pm there will be a themed talk, activity or workshop. Attendees can select the sessions that are most appealing to them, or sign up for all five sessions.
Sessions include; investigating just how much nature can help nurture the mind, body and soul, how to harness climate anxiety to drive positive action, a craftivism workshop showing a gentler side to protesting, and an open chat session. There will also be inspiring stories of the things other young people are doing nationally to drive positive change.
Staffordshire based Wilder Youth sessions include a Halloween hang out at Hem Heath Woods, Stoke-on-Trent, on Saturday 28 October and a Hedgelaying skills workshop at Brankley Pastures Nature Reserve on Friday 24 November, near Barton-under-Needwood.
Alexis added: “The Staffordshire based Wilder Youth project is all about providing young people opportunities to do what they are interested in. As such, these activities have been arranged based on requests and feedback from young people. They’re open to all 16 to 24-year-olds and everyone is welcome!
“The sessions are a great chance to learn new skills (hedge laying is an art!) but also to meet other young people with similar interests and enjoy spending time in nature. We’ve seen some of our young people forging ahead towards ‘greener’ lives as a result of these sessions, so they are a great way to help young people pursue their interest in environmental careers too.
“We’re calling out to parents, teachers, youth workers… If you know or work with a young person or youth group who you think would be interested, please share these opportunities with them and encourage them to book.”
