The project started with establishing wildflower meadows on the greenspace near the balancing lakes at Astonfields and Sandon Road traffic lights with the help of local residents, Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, Staffordshire Street Scene, and the Bumblebee Conservation Trust. Staffordshire Wildlife Trust is working closely with Stafford Borough Council to identify what people in the communities want to see happen for nature and wildlife on their doorstep, and reducing barriers to make it easier to achieve. Sue Kneill-Boxley, Nexdoor Nature Community Organiser for Stafford says: “We’re excited to be empowering people to do good for nature and their neighbourhood. Planting the meadow was just the first step, we’d love to hear more about what people want to do for nature in their communities. If you have an idea, or just want to learn more, please get in touch. We’d love to hear from you.” Residents across Stafford wards can find out more about the project and send in ideas to Sue from the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust Nextdoor Nature webpage: https://www.staffs-wildlife.org.uk/nextdoor-nature-lottery-fund |
